2024 Honda Civic Hatchback

The Civic has maintained its unprecedented popularity because it does a lot of things really well. Besides the model’s well-known longevity, it is spacious relative to its class, with high-ranking interior and cargo volume. This compact car’s standard features and safety technologies provide clear value, and its powertrains consistently deliver efficiency and ample acceleration. What’s most impressive, however, is Honda’s ability to repackage this winning formula to meet almost any driving style under a nameplate umbrella that includes the classic Civic Sedan, the sporty Civic Si, the racing-inspired Civic Type R, or the variant we delve into here: the versatile Civic Hatchback.

Trims and Mechanical Details

Civic Hatchback buyers can choose from four trim levels for the 2024 model year: LX, Sport, EX-L, and Sport Touring. The first two trims get a 158-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine while the second two upgrade to a turbocharged 180-horsepower 1.5-liter four-cylinder. The LX and EX-L come strictly with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). To the delight of old-school drivers who enjoy shifting the gears themselves, the Sport and Sport Touring have a standard 6-speed manual transmission (6MT), although they’re eligible for an available CVT with paddle shifters.

The fuel economy ratings for the ‘24 Civic Hatchback vary according to the trim level and powertrain combination. The EX-L achieves an EPA-estimated 31 mpg around town and 39 mpg on the highway; the LX dips ever so slightly to 30 city/38 highway. The Sport CVT and Sport Touring CVT will return nearly the same numbers at 29 city/37 highway and 30 city/37 highway, respectively. Rounding out the lineup are the manual-transmission versions of those two trims with the manual transmission at 26 city/36 highway for the Sport and 28 city/37 highway for the Sport Touring.

Standard and Optional Equipment

The LX sits on 16-inch alloy wheels and comes with the following standard features: LED exterior lighting (headlights/daytime running lights/taillights), automatic climate control, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster display, power side mirrors, a security system with remote entry, rear seat heater ducts, a reversible side-pull cargo cover with illumination, and a 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback. The Sport enhances its appearance with 18-inch gloss-black alloy wheels and trim-exclusive paint colors like Boost Blue Pearl and Sonic Gray Pearl. It also has a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, sport pedals, Smart Entry with Walk Away Auto Lock, a Honda feature that will automatically lock the doors of the Civic Hatchback when the driver walks away with the key fob in their possession.

The EX-L has 17-inch alloy wheels and gains a power moonroof and heated power side mirrors. The interior is upgraded with black or gray leather trim as well as heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat, and rear beverage holders. The Sport Touring gets the same 18-inch alloy wheels, sport pedals, and additional paint choices as the Sport trim. Some other notable additions to this top-of-the-line Civic Hatchback are a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 4-way power-adjustable passenger seat, LED fog lights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and dual exhaust finishers.

Advanced Safety Tech

Honda Sensing, a proprietary suite of driver-assistive features, comes standard on all trims. The version in the base LX includes adaptive cruise control, auto high-beams, collision mitigation braking, forward collision warning, a driver attention monitor, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, traffic jam assist, and traffic sign recognition. The blind spot monitor is added at the EX-L level. The Sport Touring is loaded, getting all of the above plus front and rear parking sensors, low-speed braking control (CVT only), and a rear cross-traffic monitor.

Connectivity and Infotainment

In terms of technology, the LX sets the bar high with a host of connectivity and entertainment features, all controlled via the 7-inch color touchscreen. It gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, SMS text messaging, and a 160-watt sound system with four speakers. The Sport and EX-L trade the standard stereo for a 180-watt audio system with eight speakers, while the Sport Touring gets a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system with a subwoofer. The Sport Touring also upgrades to a 9-inch touchscreen and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay; SiriusXM, HD Radio, and a satellite-linked navigation system are also added to this topmost trim.
